Show me the Maths

Get your children searching for maths in REAL life, during their summer holidays! They’ll think they are playing, but, they’ll also be learning! This brilliant, fun interactive project for all budding young mathematicians sets the challenge to capture mathematics on camera.
Not only is it fun & will be inspiring your children to be learning maths while they’re on their summer holidays, but your school gets chance to win a free visit from Bubblz! For every photograph entered.
Set up as a class project, each child takes photos throughout the summer holidays and brings in their photographs to school in September.
As a class, they discuss what maths they can find and the challenge is for the children to come up with as many different questions about the maths that they’ve discovered. Then the class chooses the very best pictures and questions, as entries are limited to only 6 per class! Remember the more entries your school makes, the more chance your school has of winning a free visit from Bubblz!
This picture is a great example of how something simple in REAL life can contain so much maths!
Show me the Maths:
Example:
What shapes can you see?
Can you estimate the amount of parallel lines?
How wide is the gap between the parallel lines?
Can you describe the triangles on the pavement?
How many rectangles can you see?
How far away is the sea from the lamp post?
How tall is the blue and white building?
What is the angle between the clown (wearing the red & white striped top) & the pavement?
Look at the lamp post and the building behind it and have a discussion about which is taller
Some of these sample questions are more advanced than others, some are deceptively simple, such as counting rectangles. This competition is an example of a low entry, high ceiling activity.
This competition was inspired by ATM’s (Association for Teachers of Mathematics) “Where is the Maths?” activity.
